Modern Hazard Safety Signs
As a result of development in science and technology, many newer types of hazards could be seen and felt in modern laboratories. These modern hazard signs warn against those hazards that might be present in laboratories or even in work spaces due to such components as lazer, radiation, chemical weapons or bio hazards. These modern hazard symbols are often regulated by law and directed by standards organizations. Therefore, they may appear with different colors, backgrounds, borders and additional information so as to signify the type of hazard but the basic sign is always in the center of focus and easily recognizable. Some of such important modern hazard signs in laboratories include the following.
Biohazard safety sign warns against biological hazards and is used for labeling biological substances carrying significant health risks, including viral samples and used hypodermic needles. Laboratories/ work areas where such biological material is present also use this safety sign to warn the people entering or working there.
Laser safety sign clearly indicates that a laser system is present in the laboratory or workspace. This is an safety sign as even low-power lasers with only a few milliwats of output can be hazardous, especially to human eyesight.
Ionizing Radiation Safety Sign warns against the potential dangers of being close to a large source of ionizing radiation. Till recently the traditional trefoil symbol was used as radiation hazard symbol. The new safety sign also shows it at the top along with a skull and crossbones.
