A Resistance Box is popularly used in physics laboratory in educational
institutions and other areas for putting known values of resistance into
circuits. The box contains a number of resistance coils of standard
values arranged in a manner so as to combine in various ways to afford
more or less resistance. Resistance boxes are available in different formats and are constructed from the finest materials. These boxes or equipment have decade dials for setting precise values, and are manufactured to precision tolerances of about 1% or more. These equipment are used in experiments where a varying resistance value is to be calculated. The boxes cannot handle much current, as the precision resistance coils overheat quickly, and their insulation can melt.
