A Pipette, also known as a Pipet is a narrow glass tube used for
suctioning small amounts of liquid are suctioned for transfer or
measurement. This measuring instrument consists of a graduated glass
tube used to measure or transfer precise volume of a liquid by
suctioning the liquid up into the tube. Pipette tubes are designed specially for meeting different purposes, these lab instruments have varying levels of precision and accuracy. The instruments creates a vacuum above the liquid holding tube / chamber and then releasing the vacuum to draw and dispense chemicals, liquids and other solutions.
Types of Pipettes
- Micropipette: Used for filling and dispensing between 1 and 1000 microlitre of liquids and chemicals.
- Macro pipettes: Used for filling and dispensing large volumes of liquids and chemicals.
- Electric pipette: These are battery-operated pipettes, also known as pipette helper. These instruments are specially designed to e used with disposable tubes.
- Adjustable pipette: These are one of the most precise and accurate lab instruments being used these days.
Use of Pipette tube
This simple lab instrument is widely used in number of field and areas including:
- Medical Tests
- Molecular Biology Research
- Chemicals
- Educational Laboratories
- Clinical Laboratories
- Diagnostics
