Laboratory heating
Equipment are among the most popular types of laboratory equipment that
is used in the laboratory to generate the heat required to effect a reaction
or a separation. These may include ovens, heating mantles, oil baths, salt
baths, sand baths, air baths, furnaces to even immersion heaters and hot-air
guns.
The broad range of laboratory heating equipment can be divided into two
broad categories they are steam-heated devices and electrically heated
devices. While steam-heated devices are preferred over electrically heated
devices whenever the requirement for temperature is 100 °C or less.
With Steam-heated devices there is no chance of any risks in the form of
shocks or sparks. They can be left unattended without the danger of
temperature exceeding 100 °C. For electrically heated devices a number
of general precautions need to be taken in the laboratory liking wiring of
the autotransformers, putting the heating element in an insulated case etc.
