Condensers are lab glassware used during the distillation process for
converting vapors into water. It consists of a straight glass pipe going
through a water jacket. The equipment provides efficient cooling. The parts of the glass condenser is constructed with proper sealing to prevent any violation between the cooling water and the condensing material.
Most condensing equipment is manufactured from borosilicate glass as this glass is strong and possesses heat and chemical resistant properties.
Types of Condensers
- Liquid Condensers or Liebig Condenser
- Air Condensers
Water condensers are much more efficient as they use liquid cooling. Water has the capacity to absorb much more heat as compared to same volume of air. Water condensers remain at constant temperature due to continuous circulation through the water jackets.
Use of Condensers
- Distillation
- Educational Laboratory
- Clinical Laboratory
