digital thermometers has made the readings more accurate and readable. The ear digital thermometers are gaining in popularity. Oral digital thermometers are also available but are not nearly as popular as digital ear thermometers. They are especially great for kids and old patients and are easily available. Let us discuss on how to use a digital ear thermometer.

It is to be noted that most digital thermometer takes a temperature in less than a half a minute. First of all, read the instructions of using the ear thermometer. Even after using the thermometer once, it is advisable not to throw away the instruction paper.

Wipe the digital thermometer probe using a soapy washcloth. Otherwise you can use a tissue dabbed in isopropyl alcohol and clean the probe.

After cleaning the thermometer, please turn it on.

The actual care is in inserting the thermometer into the ear canal. Do not force or press it too much into the ear so as to cause pain. If there is a swelling in the ear canal, do not use the thermometer.

Once the thermometer is inserted into the ear, wait for the beep sound. When you hear the beep sound, take the thermometer out. Read the thermometer. The temperature will be displayed. Incase if you see the message "ERR", then it means that the thermometer was not inserted properly and it did not get good contact with the ear canal.

Proceed the same steps and take the temperature again.
